Don’t misunderstand. This “public vs private school” blog post isn’t meant to demean anyone or suggest that every private school experience is superior. We are simply showcasing one personal experience.
We asked Addie, an 11th Grader at Adolesco Prep, to give us a short testimonial of her time so far. What she shared impressed us. Not only will this encourage your faith, but we believe this story will encourage parents. Just because your kids grow up, they don’t have to grow out of the morals you’ve instilled.
At the end of the day, the battle is not public vs private school.
It’s about making sure your child is in an environment that helps them thrive—in education and life.
If you are looking for a change, consider: Is your child’s story similar to Addie’s school experience?
Called According to His Purpose: My Time at Adolesco Prep
By Addie Hines (11th Grade)
Looking back on my time spent at Adolesco Prep so far, I am filled with gratitude for the way God has used this school to shape who I am. Over the years, through the guidance of teachers, the encouragement of friends, and the challenges of leadership roles, I have grown not only in confidence but also in purpose. I have learned to take initiative and remain grounded in Christian values, all in which Adolesco Prep has supported me. Whether through an increased Biblical worldview, academic challenges, or community moments like our morning Discipleship, Adolesco Prep has helped me become a more thoughtful and intentional person.
Deepening Faith
I have experienced God deepening my faith. Discipleship Class, Rise&Shine messages, and class conversations about Scripture have helped me understand that faith is more than knowledge; it is trust, surrender, and action. I have learned to rely on prayer during stressful times, to seek God’s wisdom before making decisions, and to find peace in His promises.
One verse that has especially helped me through hard times is Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Recognizing that God knows all and that Jesus has triumphed brings me comfort during difficult times as an adolescent and will continue to carry me into my college years.
My teachers have modeled wisdom and faithfulness, and our relationships have challenged and supported me in ways I will always appreciate. My heart, mind, and soul are being crafted. However, my faith is just one part of my development on my journey at Adolesco Prep.
Additional Growth
My maturing faith is certainly a top benefit, both as a student at Adolesco Prep and as a teenager. I have experienced two more areas of significant growth, one of which is leadership. Whether it was leading a group project, volunteering at our annual Fall Fest, or simply stepping up when something needs to be done, I have learned that leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room.
True leadership reflects Christ’s example: serving others with humility, listening well, and leading by example even when no one is watching. I have discovered that even small acts of responsibility can inspire others, and that leadership begins with character. I am thankful that Adolesco Prep has created space for students to grow in leadership by trusting us with real opportunities and encouraging us to lead from the heart.
Another meaningful way I have grown is in independence, in large part from School@Home days and Dual Enrollment classes. As I have grown older, I have learned to manage my time better, take responsibility for my own work, and hold myself accountable. Working on long-term projects, preparing for assessments, and balancing multiple commitments has enabled me to discover that being independent does not mean doing everything alone. It means learning how to make wise choices and stay grounded in my values, especially when things get tough. This independence has helped me become more confident in who I am and what I believe, even when I face uncertainty.
Thankful
In all of this, I am thankful for the people and experiences God placed in my path through Adolesco Prep. I have closed the chapter of tenth grade more rooted in faith, more prepared to serve, and more confident in walking the path ahead. I know I still have more growing to do, but I am excited to step into what is next, trusting that God will continue to lead me, shape me, and purpose me for His glory.
Are you encouraged?
As a parent, I hope my children express similar sentiments at the end of their grade school experience. As educators, we are proud of Addie’s accomplishments and her growth.
Again, instead of stirring up public vs private school debates, we hope you were encouraged. And if you hope your child has a similar school experience, register for an upcoming Parent Informational Meeting today.
